“If it were easy, everyone would do it”
This past week was pretty hard. I’ve had so many trainings and running around to do (Stress). When I did take some to sit down, I would feel guilty because there was always something for me to do (More stress). I’m slowly starting to realize that there really is no such thing as “balance”, which is something I’ve been struggling with for the longest. No one wants to suck as the president of an org., I don’t want to suck as a research assistant, and I certainly don’t want to suck as a student. This feeling of inadequacy has had me feeling so overwhelmed, it’s not even funny. Trying to remind myself to take everything one step at a time has helped a little. But, I have just been so busy it’s hard to believe that we’ve only been in school for 2 weeks.
Look, I’m not gonna lie, this is a lot! You add “studying like my life depends on it” in the equation and it starts to seem unbearable. But, lost in all this craziness is all of the sweet moments that I’ve had this week. Like, my org had our first partnership in honor of Sickle Cell Awareness Month and my girls and I had the most amazing “Girls Day”. Hopefully, things will get a bit easier as I catch my stride, but I’ll let you know.
Something Interesting I learned:
Here at my lovely University, the clicker systems now require a subscription. So we have to pay for the clickers, pay to use the clickers, AND continue to pay tuition! What is life?! Also, the sickle cell disease is more prevalent in the Black community than I thought. About 1 in 365 black babies is born with the disease, yet you don’t really hear much about it. Wild, right?
Song of the Week:
Daniel Caesar’s entire album. This man’s voice is so moving, if you haven’t checked him out yet then what are you doing? I’ve also been enjoying some of the music Apple’s been putting in those little playlists they make for me.
Something I’m grateful for:
My friends and family.
Next Week’s Goals:
- I want to continue to read “Beloved” by Toni Morrison. I think 5 “chapters/parts” in. It’s interesting that she doesn’t have it broken down in chapters; it just flows.
- Stay on top of my readings #sigh
- Ace my first Bio exam!
Welp, that’s it for me. I hope you all have a productive week!!
