This week was week 1 of studying for the MCAT. You may (or may not) remember that I was planning to start studying this summer. I truly underestimated how tiring my job would be and never got around to studying. After getting accustomed to my class schedule, I finally sat down and made my MCAT study plan. I officially started the content review last Tuesday. I’ve already had to move some things around because of vet visits and just being exhausted after evening classes. For week 2, I’m planning to revisit all of the things that I didn’t get to last week and to work on some of the practice problems.
Materials
I’m back to using the Kaplan books. I’ve decided to give them another shot and they’re really not that bad. I know before, the content seemed overwhelming. Now, I start by reading the chapter summaries before diving in. I’ve also been trying to use Kaplan’s flashcard app. I don’t like it. I wish that it had an option for me to choose what topics I want to review.
I’ve laid out my study plan using iCal. The subjects are listed as events and the topics that I plan to cover are listed in the notes section. As I make my way through the content, I plan to use this review sheet. It seems pretty comprehensive, but we’ll see.
Topics studied
Week 1 of my MCAT studying consisted of Cell Bio, Amino acids, Peptides, and Proteins, and CARS. Week 2, I will be playing catch up when it comes to all of the other subjects.
Goals for Week 2
- stay on schedule!!
- finish the end of chapter questions!
- try to study more on the go!
- try not to study at home– I never get anything done there
- utilize the Pomodoro technique
- stay focused!
- remember to stay hydrated
