It’s been a while since I’ve updated the “Studying for the MCAT…” section of my blog because I’ve been studying and wrapping up Fall 2019. Today, I took my first full-length (FL) exam since starting content review and it didn’t go so well. For reference, I used one of my Kaplan FLs and I’ve been using their book set for content review. I ended up scoring a whopping 484– yikes! My scores for each section was pretty balanced, with my lowest being Bio/Biochem. So much went wrong while I was taking this exam. Looking at my score report, there were times where I changed my right answer to a wrong one and times where I just made simple mistakes.
About midway through the exam, I got burnt out. I tried to mimic the official testing environment as close as possible, but today just wasn’t my day. I went to my public library and there were screaming children, a man singing in one of the study rooms, and a bunch of other distractions. Next time, I’m going to try to go to my school’s library as it does have 2 designated floors for quiet/silent floors. In any case, I’ll definitely be bringing my noise-canceling headphones. I have about 56 days left for my exam and I’ll be taking a full length every week leading up to the week of my test.

The next few weeks
We only have about two weeks left of school, after that, I’m planning to do 12-hour study days. Right now, we’re on Thanksgiving break so I’ll be wrapping up the last few assignments for school and revising my weakest MCAT topics.
Wrapping up the content review
- I definitely have to revisit physics
- tighten up CARS strategy
- review chemistry
Countdown to MCAT 2020
- EK practice passages
- AAMC practice questions and passages
- More full-length exams!
Learning from my mistakes of this full length, I truly believe I’ll be able to improve my score for my other 8 full-length exams. I’ll try to report back as much as possible– thanks so much for reading!
